Globally, the print media market is shrinking, and the publishing industry, particularly, is facing a crisis.However, China's publishing industry continues to grow, and reading rates are rising.In addition, the number of independent and online bookstores is increasing, and independent bookstores with specialties are evolving into multicultural spaces.These developments in Chinese publishing have implications for the Korean publishing industry.The growth of online bookstores, the increase of independent bookstores, the evolution of bookstores into multicultural spaces, the scale-up and franchising of bookstores, the rise of the Tsutaya bookstore in Japan, and the active support of the Chinese government in terms of reading promotion policies, various cultural events, and other factors are all contributing to the growth of Chinese bookstores.Of course, Chinese bookstores have their problems.Killer contents such as games that replace books, the polarization of online and offline bookstores, the cost burden of bookstores (rent, labor costs, etc.), and the inefficiency of bookstore space are pointed out as problems.In response, the Chinese government has supported the shrinking offline bookstores through direct financial support, special funds, tax incentives and reductions, rent reduction, financial credit support, and legal support.This is helping to promote reading and the development of the publishing industry as a whole.
