Abstract

This paper presents a predictive control approach for controlling the output voltage of an LLC resonant converter. The half-bridge LLC converter is used as a DC battery charger in a solar powered charging station for electric bicycles. The LLC resonant converter was selected for this application due to its inherent soft switching, high efficiency, ability to operate at high switching frequencies, and has a relatively wide voltage range. The predictive control algorithm provides regulation of the output voltage to the set point. The switches of the converter are controlled directly, i.e. without using a modulator which implies a variable switching frequency.
