This study aims to explain how the romance formula in the Teman Tapi Menikah’s novel and explain the differences in the theme of romance in the Teman Tapi Menikah’s novel as popular literature with the theme of romance in the novel Bumi Manusia as serious literature. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The results showed that the formula for romance in Teman Tapi Menikah is true and this study shows the difference between Teman Tapi Menikah as a popular literature and the novel Bumi Manusia as a serious literature. © 2020 The Authors.
