: This research examines the role of intonation as a significant contributor to the ‘music’ of spoken English. The authors will attempt to prove its importance and how it can be taught and learned in an EFL/ESL classroom. Additionally, the research reveals the influence of culture on language learning. The study, based on 110 university students, demonstrates the potential development of interest in speech proficiency, a positive attitude towards intercultural sensitivity, and its ultimate influence on social communication. Various devices make lexis and grammar more accessible to learners, but the methodology used for the transmission of intonation, and other prosodic features of articulation, make their acquisition very intangible and abstract. The result of the study stirred curiosity in the minds of the participants, who voiced a keenness to surmount their speech inadequacies and acquire the finer distinctions of spoken English, to become comprehensible speakers during a verbal exchange. The research and pedagogy resulted in observing the steady progress of the subjects and their feeling of empowerment due to the sense of achievement after speech perfection. The research demonstrated that teaching and learning intonation is possible if the learners are made aware of its significance during an oral discourse.

The authors consider the professional identity of the individual as one that develops as a result of his work or educational activities. The paper analyzes the factors that contribute to the formation of the professional identity of applicants. The article proves that the choice of university entrants is a factor influencing their professional self-determination. The choice of the educational program by the entrants is considered as a factor of their professional self-realization, and the formation of the individual educational trajectory of the student is considered as a factor of realization of the "I-concept" at the level of determining professional preferences of entrants. The article analyzes the dynamics of change in the professional identity of entrants and students on the example of training in the speciality "Software Engineering" at different stages of becoming a competent specialist. The dynamics of the development of a student's professional identity from student identification "Istudent" to European identity as a condition of integration into the European community is shown.

The paper deals with EFL and presents different theoretical and practical ways in language learning, that is learning new vocabulary. In the beginning it examines the two different ways of learning a foreign language, that is incidental (language acquisition) and intentional (language learning). Subsequently, it examines which is more important in language learning, grammar, or vocabulary and why. The central part of the paper focuses on ways of teaching and learning new vocabulary and the four key points in learning new vocabulary, which are exposure, repetition and multiple encounter, multisensory learning and learning stages. The paper describes the theoretical background for the four key points and tips on how to implement them. The paper argues that vocabulary trumps grammar in foreign language learning and that the four key points described in the paper are crucial in facilitating vocabulary learning. The paper is in terms of methodology theoretical in nature and uses the descriptive research method as it describes previous findings on the topic and comparative research method when comparing professional and scientific findings of different authors. The paper is also based on the author’s personal work and activities in the classroom in her 20 years of teaching English.
