THE ROLE OF DIALECTS IN EFL STUDENTS’ PRONUNCIATION AT UNIVERSITY 方言在大学英语语言学生发音中的作用

The purpose of this study is to examine how dialect affects how English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students at Pgri University of Palembang pronounce the language. In the fourth semester of the 2023–2024 academic year, a total of 16 students from Palembang, Musi Banyuasin, Ogan Ilir, and Pagaralam participated in the study. The investigators utilized interviews and questionnaires as well as descriptive qualitative research approaches to obtain data. Twelve students agreed, according to the questionnaire results, that their dialect influences how they pronounce English words. Furthermore, the findings of the interviews revealed that the students hailing from Pagaralam, Ogan Ilir, and Musi Banyuasin believed their dialect contributed to a distinct pronunciation. In summary, dialect plays a part in how university students who are learning English as a foreign language pronounce the language.

TEACHING SPEAKING ABILITY OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH DIRECT NSTRUCTION MODEL 通过直接教学模式提高职业高中学生的口语能力

Through the use of oral tests to describe places described in descriptive texts, this study sought to investigate the efficacy of an instruction model combined with a learning model in enhancing the speaking abilities of Vocational High School (SMK) students. The goal of this study was to teach English speaking skills in a classroom setting. An experimental strategy with a pre- and post-test one group design was employed in the research methodology. Tenth grade TKJ students from Vocational High School PGRI Pangkalan Balai academic years 2023/2024 made up the research sample. Speaking exams were used to gather data both before and after the course of treatment. The speaking exam was divided into multiple parts, including fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. With an average pre-test score of 47.23% and an average post-test score of 64.3, the data analysis results demonstrated a considerable improvement in the speaking ability of students who received instruction through a direct instruction paradigm. This result demonstrates how well the learning model with direct instruction worked to enhance the speaking skills of students enrolled in vocational programs.

DISCOURSE CONNECTORS IN THE ESP STUDENTS’ WRITINGS: A PRELIMINARY STUDY 学生作文中的话语连接词:初步研究

Cohesion and coherent writing are important aspects of a well-written paragraph. For a paragraph to successfully communicate its meaning, it must be coherent and cohesive. Examining how English for Specific Purposes (ESP) students use discourse connectors in their writing was the aim of this study. The argumentative essays written by students enrolled in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses were the main focus of the study. Thirty-six essays from ESP students were chosen as the sample for this study using a purposive sampling technique. Methods of quantitative analysis were applied to the data. The results showed that the students' use of a wide variety of discourse connectors was lacking. Furthermore, they did not use enough accurate discourse connections. Additionally, it was seen that discourse connectors were being used excessively. In addition, the discourse connectors "and," "or," "because (of)," and "so (that)" were most frequently employed. The study produced a number of recommendations for instructional strategies and further investigation. Lastly, it was anticipated that this study would be helpful for future research on the application of discourse connectors.

DIGITALIZATION OF ONLINE LANGUAGE PROGRAM PLANNING MANAGEMENT 在线语言计划规划管理的数字化

The Instagram platform is widely used in the digital age, especially for teaching and learning foreign languages. After the United States and Brazil, Indonesia ranks third in terms of Instagram usage activity. This study details the administration of Arabic language online courses on the Motivaarab Instagram account, including goals, objectives, and resources. Descriptive qualitative research is the research methodology employed, and data collection methods include documentation analysis, interviews, and observation. The study's findings indicate that the target audience for the online Arabic language program is beginner and intermediate speakers. The program's objective is to provide Reels for Maharah Kalam and Quizzes for Qawaid Lughah, and the target material has already been identified. The Motivationarab account on Instagram creates Reels, or quick movies, that often last no more than a minute. In this instance, Reels receives more attention than Quiz since the quiz consists of multiple choice questions about qawaid lughah.

GRAMMATICAL ERROR IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXTS 记叙文写作中的语法错误

TThe purpose of this study was to analyze the many kinds of grammatical errors that fall under four different categories—omission, addition, misorder, and distortion—as well as the reasons behind them when producing recount texts. The study employed a descriptive-qualitative research design. The participants were the 24 eighth-grade students from SMP Negeri 45 Palembang who were enrolled for the 2023–2024 academic year. The researcher employed questionnaires and writing tests as instruments to gather data, which was subsequently analyzed. The results revealed that 221 errors total—65 (29,4%) in the Omission category, 41 (18,6%) in the Addition category, 16 (7,2%) in the Misorder category, and 99 (44,8%) in the Misformation category—were committed by the students. When composing recall texts, students most frequently committed mistakes in the Misformation category. The questionnaire's results showed that students were not only interested in producing recount texts, but also, perhaps because of their limited vocabulary, they were not quite aware of how to apply grammatical structures in their writing.

THE EDUCATIONAL VALUE OF THE MUNGGAH MOLO TRADITION IN SUMUB LOR VILLAGE, SRAGI DISTRICT, PEKALONGAN DISTRICT 佩卡龙根县 Sragi 区 Sumub Lor 村蒙加莫洛传统的教育价值

Many people should be aware of the munggah molo tradition. The purpose of this study is to characterize the structure, significance, and use of the munggah molo tradition. An technique based on folklore is employed in this study. Qualitative descriptive research methodology was employed in this study. The findings of this study demonstrate that the Sumub Lor Hamlet inhabitants follow the Munggah Molo custom, which has been passed down from generation to generation, when building a dwelling. Processions such pitung (calculating good time), munggah molo (raising the highest wood to support the roof), and sitting batur (building foundations) are part of this custom. Every step reflects thanksgiving and a plea for salvation, and has a profound spiritual and symbolic significance. A harmonious life for the occupants of the new residence is also hoped for, together with blessings of good fortune. The walimahan procession, a group prayer for the protection and blessings of the newly constructed house, marks the conclusion of the custom.

This research focuses on the news of Aldi Taher as a Bacaleg in online media. The purpose of this research is to find out how the image displayed by three online media (tempo.co, republika.co.id, and detik.com) and its relation to social reality. In this research, the method used is descriptive qualitative method. Data analysis uses critical discourse study theory proposed by Norman Fairclough. The results show that there are different variations of media images. Tempo.co tends to focus on reporting Aldi Taher's politics as a Bacaleg by finding out responses to the political world, Detik.com is more focused on the Aldi Taher phenomenon on social media but is reported neutrally, while Republika.co.id is more focused on reporting the Aldi Taher phenomenon and his unique image known on social media. Key Words: Critical Discourse Analysis, Online Media, Celebrity

The study focuses on the crucial role of teaching foreign languages, particularly English, to young children as a means to enhance their knowledge and overall development. Employing a descriptive analysis methodology based on literature studies, the research aims to identify both the positive and negative impacts of introducing English during early childhood. To ensure a structured approach, the study establishes specific criteria as limitations for data collection. The findings reveal that learning English at a young age yields numerous benefits, while also acknowledging potential negative effects. This comprehensive examination of the subject provides valuable insights into the complexities of early language acquisition and its implications for child development. The study's novelty lies in its balanced approach, considering both the advantages and potential drawbacks of early English language education, which can inform educational practices and policies moving forward.

A response to the transformation in education is learning media. In order to adapt to changes in education, learning media innovation is a calculated move. Increasing student engagement and learning outcomes is influenced by the continuous development of educational media. It is expected that the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology into natural science instruction will improve scientific literacy, especially for elementary school pupils. Three-dimensional media makes the approach more flexible, engaging, and creative by using different items as target markers. Investigating and evaluating the use of Augmented Reality (AR) media in elementary school natural science instruction is the goal of this project. A literature review is the research methodology used, and data gathering is done using a literature study strategy. Learning outcomes and student attention have been demonstrated to be greatly enhanced by the development and application of augmented reality (AR) media in a variety of natural scientific courses. Among these subjects are the diets of animals, ecosystems, plants, and animals that go through full metamorphosis. Students are able to develop their creative faculties, assess their emotional intelligence, and grow more cooperative and competitive with their peers as a result.

Cyberspace is examined in this study as an example of innovation in Islamic boarding schools in Veranda of Mecca, Padang Panjang. This study is restricted to six Islamic Boarding Schools located in Padang Panjang: the Padang Panjang Putra Thawalib, the Muhammadiyah Kauman, the Veranda of Mecca Integrated Islamic Boarding School, the Thawalib Putri Islamic Boarding School, and the Puteri Diniyyah College. This study approach makes use of qualitative research, and approaches for observation, documenting, and interviewing are used to acquire data. The findings revealed that a number of Islamic boarding schools made use of cyberspace as a teaching innovation during the pandemic, including the usage of robotics, YouTube, WhatsApp, Zoom, and other social media platforms, in addition to using lab space as a resource for learning innovations. The less competent signal, the fact that some professors still do not grasp technology, and the insufficient internet allowance are some of the suggestions and difficulties that educators and students encounter. Furthermore, a lot of students still do not comprehend distance learning, and there is still a lack of student enthusiasm in studying remotely.
