This paper explores the construction of ideational meanings in the speeches of Nouman Ali Khan using the choice of transitivity in Transitivity in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). The study uses the ideational meta-function provided by Halliday to examine 20 thematic lines of the speeches in four themes: Identity and Purpose, Youth and Struggle, Marriage and Family, and Quranic Reflection. The clause is used as the unit of analysis; the 20 lines were divided into 39 clauses, which were coded according to the type of processes (material, mental, relational, verbal, behavioral, existential), role of a participant (e.g., Actor, Goal, Senser, Carrier, Sayer), and the circumstances. Results suggest that there is a predominance of material processes, which means that the discourse chosen to work with religiosity focuses on action, reform, and transformation as the main aspects of religiosity. The relational processes prove to be evident in order to construct and reform the main notions like identity, faith, failure, and moral value, and mental processes are concerned with inner consciousness and the evaluative perception. Verbal processes are also localized in the Quran Reflection lines, in which Allah and the Quran are often placed as Sayers, as a reinforcement of scriptural and divine authority, through communicative representation. All in all, the patterns of transitivity demonstrate systematic grammatical strategies by which the speeches assign responsibility to the audience, keep the divine witnessing and guidance as the dominant meaning, and create religious identity through definition networks. The paper shows that transitivity analysis is a strict tool explaining how the modern Islamic motivational text creates experience, agency, and ideology on the level of the clauses (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2014; Thompson, 2014).

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) pretenses a critical universal wellbeing hazard, demanding advanced strategies to battle drug-resistant pathogens. Nano-biotechnology, a cross-disciplinary field at the juncture of nanotechnology and biomedicine, has arisen as an auspicious opportunity for addressing this task. This abstract offers a brief impression of the role of nano-biotechnology in the battle against AMR. Nano-biotechnology controls nanomaterials and nanostructures to project new approaches for overpowering resistance mechanisms. By augmenting the effectiveness of current antimicrobial agents, nanomaterials offer a probable solution to the confines of conservative treatments. Moreover, nanocarriers empower targeted and controlled drug delivery, refining therapeutic results while minimalizing adverse effects. In addition to enhancing treatment strategies, nano-biotechnology eases the improvement of innovative diagnostics and monitoring tools. Nano-based biosensors and imaging practices enable prompt and delicate detection of drug-resistant strains, allowing for quick intervention and particular management of infections. While the potential profits are substantial, trials such as biocompatibility, noxiousness, and ethical contemplations must be addressed for accountable and safe enactment. Interdisciplinary association among investigators, healthcare professionals, and policymakers is critical to translating these progressions into practical solutions. This abstract highlight the noteworthy promise of nano-biotechnology in the constant battle against AMR, accentuating its potential to transfigure the field of infectious disease management and contribute to worldwide public health efforts.

The education system is vital to eliminating societal inequalities. Internet-based learning systems launched in low- and middle-income countries by providing an equity vibe; however, Bangladesh's reality differs from this philosophy. Bangladesh adopted an e-learning strategy to perk up its literacy rate during the COVID-19 lockdown. However, the current situation has become complex due to insufficient internet network and technological setup, the market-generated welfare policy, little accountability of the state, and inadequate fund release to accommodate this new learning system. Disabled students got few benefits from the system; for instance, it reduced mobility crisis; hence financial, societal, and cultural blockades become uniquely problematic to some extent. The current article will analyse existing secondary literature to understand disabled students' academic future in Bangladesh, relevant policy, and practices to determine their citizenship rights.

Since the early 2000’s trade liberalization, the state-owned sugar mills in Bangladesh have started to lose competitiveness. Before that this industry used to be considered a strategic sector because sugar is an essential food and the industry creates thousands of rural employments. In 2020, the government suspended operation of six out of fifteen mills with the excuse of loss. The closure of six mills has reduced the sugar production and negatively impacted the lives of farmers, workers, and businessmen. The government is considering foreign investment without considering the potential of government investment to revive the industry. Therefore, it is important to re-examine the factors that increased the cost and find out how the state could revive the industry under its ownership. This paper analysed the data of 15 state-owned sugar mills for 14 years (2006-07 to 2019-2020) using mixed method (fixed effect regression and interview) to explain the mechanisms of the cost increase. It found that the recovery rate, price of sugarcane, availability of sugarcane, age of mills, and interest payment are the most important determinants of cost. Modernizing the mills, making sugarcane available through sugarcane price incentives, timely payment to farmers, and diversifying products could contribute to cost reduction.

This paper explores the processes of gender construction in political communication as reflected in the Bangladeshi media. It examines the coverage of female candidates during the 2018 general elections in four national Bengali-language newspapers using framing analysis and discourse analysis. It also includes interviews of nine women Members of Parliament to understand their response to the media coverage they do or do not receive in the national press, their own approaches to the media, and suggestions towards making the press more gender-sensitive in its political coverage. Based on the concept of gendered mediation, analysis of the media and interviews of women parliamentarians revealed that women politicians were framed in relation to male mentors; as new, inexperienced and potentially incompetent; and as representatives of women voters only. The findings suggest that the media should promote women more positively in politics by raising awareness of the presence, strength and efforts of women politicians, by covering in depth and evaluating their efforts, accomplishments and impact.

In Bangladesh, various forms of violence are much higher in the remote areas of the southern coastal districts than in any other part of the country. Though there are a number of legal support-related organisations available in the country, they have limited presence in the coastal areas. Hence, based on ten in-depth interviews, this paper focuses on women’s personal reflections on their experience of domestic violence and their attitude towards seeking help to protest against violence. The research findings reveal that although domestic violence takes place inside the family, however, is strengthened by the broader patriarchal structure and legitimised through the practice of negative socio-cultural discourses, religious beliefs, norms, and gender bias legal systems. The findings further establish that patriarchal mentality, traditional norms and discourses, women’s insecurity, lack of education and economic dependency of women create hindrance from receiving legal assistance, which in turn create further scope for domestic violence. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a master plan to achieve a sustainable future by 2030, and the government of Bangladesh has been working relentlessly to achieve its targets. Since each country is supposed to take ownership of the goals and tailor policies according to their needs, in the localisation process of the SDGs, the local government institutions play a significant role in implementation. Similarly, in Bangladesh, Rural Local Government Institutions (RLGIs) are likely to play an essential role in the localisation of the SDGs, since they remain close to the most marginalized and often vulnerable rural people and can impact them directly. However, the RLGIs have not made a notable contribution in the localisation of the SDGs so far, and the deadline is approaching. This paper aims to understand the limitation of localising the SDGs by the RLGIs in Bangladesh by exploring the challenges they face that lead to policy implementation failure. From qualitative data collected from six different RLGIs, the paper finds that RLGIs suffer from four broad challenges: financial, political and administrative, behavioural and planning challenges that are causing SDGs localisation implementation failure. The paper concludes that these issues are unlikely to be overcome in a short time, so the future of SDGs localisation within the given timeframe is questionable.

It is widely known that women’s economic empowerment can lead to economic growth. Information communication technologies (ICTs) have been promoted as tools for national development. In this context, women have been promoted themselves as entrepreneurs through connecting more people by using ICT tools effectively. This paper mainly focuses on the role of ICT for women entrepreneurship development in Bangladesh. It also represents different social, cultural barriers women face in using ICTs in their business purposes. To make the study more effective questionnaire method was used. For this study 100 women have been selected from different online business pages and sent them the questionnaire. Among them 20 women entrepreneurs respond the questionnaire which included questions on role of ICT, training on ICT, mostly use of device, monthly income, availability of ICT institutions, access of ICT, barriers of using ICT and so on. It is argued in the study that women are becoming adapt themselves with technology especially in their business purpose and lead to contribute to the country’s economy. Lack of awareness, social, cultural structure are the major barriers to bring them as entrepreneurs and change their life. Social Science Review, Vol. 39(3), Dec 2022 Page 17-35

This research intends to explore the complex dynamics between fatherhood and masculinities, and how these dynamics are shaped by different structural factors, which hinder the enactment of involved fatherhood in two generations of Bangladeshi fathers. It accumulates the voices and experiences of older and younger fathers living in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The findings demonstrate how the construction of fatherhood is influenced by Connell’s (1987) “hegemonic masculinity” ideology, where specific male identities – protectors and providers – are valued, at the cost of not performing involved or compassionate fatherhood. In addition, this study illustrates how the social expectations create pressure for men to fit in the prescribed categories; although, an attention is given towards the fluidity of hegemonic masculinity, and the challenges it faces from both generations’ fathers with the changing norms, and due to the practice of alternative masculinities – mostly by the young fathers. This research follows qualitative research methodology employing in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to have a deeper insight of what happens when structural factors, masculinity and fatherhood collide. The study concludes that both generations fathers are opening towards involved fatherhood, yet traditional fatherhood still dominates the domestic spheres.
