This study offers an analysis and comparison of two basic concepts for our educational system: that of key competencies and that of literacy. Both concepts relate directly to the teaching of Bulgarian language and define its objectives. In both theoretical models, however, the semantic parameters of the terms vary and this makes it difficult to interpret them unambiguously. The problem is transferred to the normative documents in the educational system, where there is observed a certain chaos in the use of the concepts of competence and literacy, especially according to their varieties and relations. An attempt has been made to distinguish between the two systems and to deduce the level at which they can function in synthesis.

The reason for writing is the 130th anniversary of the appearance of this first methodology, studying our native language. It turns out that the ideas and observations shared by Vela Blagoeva are working and important for our era - terminology such as: reading literacy, functional literacy, are particularly relevant. The connection between a specific literary work of art and its linguistic analysis is an aspiration of the overall teaching of BEL. The idea of systematization in the educational process is a requirement that is fundamental in our methodological work today. V. Blagoeva's work is the production, the compilation of a complete student written text. The practical direction in the guide proposed by the author is the main aspiration of our pedagogical work today. Of interest is the connection between picture and language sense, interpretation, speaking skills.

This is not only the general communicative competence, but also professional competence to converse. That gives us confidence to further actively research working pedagogical study models. In the course of one academic year, we have been developing such dynamic model with the medical students (who study Medicine in English), taking part in the freely chosen discipline “Bulgarian for medical purposes”. At this stage we have the following goals: to verify problematic areas in communication in professional environment and during practice; applying together conventional and innovative methods, instruments, and forms of education and proposing ways to improve the educational process; interdisciplinary approach to realize successful communicative competence by creating a direct connection between theory and practice. At the end of the academic year, we thus define the parameters of the results of the communicative competence in Bulgarian for professional communication. Achieving excellent communicative competence of the foreign students for a year is a key factor for checking the results.

The article aims to present the closeness in the poetic perception of the image of death in the poems "Death" and "Devil's". It is a "home" for the two lyrical characters, a kind of end of life's knowledge, universality, originality and no alternative. The poetic implication of both texts is in the direction of masculinity and proud loneliness in the realization of death as an "existential phenomenon".

The article analyzes specificities in the language practice of the famous literary critic Prof. Boris Yotsov. Тhe focus of attention is the domestic layer of words: the presence of archaic vocabulary from the Old Bulgarian period, rare and dialect words, dynamics in the word-forming variance of names; shortening the noun base of words, etc. B. Yotsov's literary criticism exemplifies the linguistic processes in the period between the Two World Wars: the time of accumulation, construction, and creativity, manifesting the tendency to combine the inevitable needs of education with identity politics, striving to establish, enrich and ever codify the academic level of the Bulgarian language.

The paper is aimed at studying the results of Ukrainian scientists who developed the theory and practice of suggestopedia.The ideas of the outstanding Bulgarian scholar G. Lozanov serve as the foundation of modern linguistics, including the directions of suggestive language didactics, linguistics of influence, psychological and neurological and marketing linguistics. Thanks to Lozanovʼs contribution, researchers have learned to find suggestive components in political messages, analyze strategic narratives, find hidden aspects in religious texts, better understand the applied nature of some folk genres and more. The special anthropological value of Lozanovʼs approaches is objectified by the development of neuroscience, where a person is often positioned as a functionary with electronic chips. Instead, Lozanovʼs man is a free, conscious and loving man. Although research on suggestion is growing in the scientific literature, there is still a significant gap in this topic, in particular on theoretical and empirical developments on the impact of suggestion on various aspects of communication. A review of recent publications on suggestopedic topics shows that the interest in G. Lozanov’s approaches does not fade and is nourished by the pedagogical search for educational paradigms which are adequate to the real needs of life and capable of combining tradition with innovation. The article presents different approaches to Lozanovʼs discoveries and aims to encourage new discourses into the area of the linguistic programming of personality.

The article shares experience from the application of a model for project and research activities related to the acquisition of knowledge of complex compound with subordinate circumstantial sentence for concession – through the obtained additional information about subordinate circumstantial sentences for concession students upgrade their knowledge of syntax. The research focuses on the visualization of the acquired new knowledge by the students as a result of their active learning, which includes independent search, selection, interpretation and attractive presentation of the studied information. This series of consecutive actions of the student directly corresponds to the role of the teacher – this is where the skills of the teacher-innovator become apparent – he not only prepares an interesting project topic for work, but also correctly selects and distributes learning tasks, taking into account students' abilities, provoking their interest. Thus, having received support and guidance, students are highly motivated and willing to work on the project assignment.

The study highlights the stylistic features of Bulgarian prose from the 20th century. Basic views on stylistics are presented as a bridge between linguistics and literary studies. Basic types of context are described. Two more complete features of style stand out - modal and argumentative. The individual stylistic means of the artists are derived and are related to the specific historical context and the respective aesthetics.

The article analyzes Victor Paskov's story “The Ballad of Georg Henich”, following the four genre paradigms that build its unique composition. These paradigms are: ballad, story, memoir and passion. Each of them has its own way of processing the life material, its own composition and way of building the images of the main characters, its own way of posing the artistic problem, as well as a specific way of impact and social function. Despite the differences between the four genre paradigms clearly present in this book, its semantic world is emphatically unified. This unity is ensured by the fact that the idea of truth underlies all four genre models. In essence, this book observes four ways of presenting and evaluating the truth, which are so organically intertwined that they form a unique, harmonious and emotionally convincing whole.

The paper aims to comment on the representation of the 1920s, seen through the last few years of the lives of the poet Geo Milev and the anarchist Georgi Sheytanov, as shown in one of the most famous contemporary Bulgarian novels, written by Hristo Karastoyanov, “The Same Night Awaits Us All”. In order for this to be achieved a few key scenes are analyzed, since they introduce main themes and narrative strategies, followed throughout the novel, as well as point out the allegorical contrast between light and darkness, good and evil. Subject to interpretation are also the characters’ motifs, actions, emotional states and reactions, particularly to the presence of death, which seems to be impossible to overlook and plays an important part in setting the overall tone of the novel.
